It's now common for vehicles to include rear-seat reminders to prevent drivers from forgetting children or animals who could face serious injury or death in a hot car. Honda's new 2021 Odyssey minivan goes a step further by giving drivers a camera view.
The refreshed Odyssey, which goes on sale this year, links the rear-seat reminder to the brand's CabinWatch system, which incorporates an overhead camera that displays a view of the rear seats in real time on the infotainment screen.
The camera system, which comes on the Touring and Elite trims, also allows for zooming in and night vision.
Honda calls the combination of rear-seat reminder and camera view an industry first.
When the Odyssey detects that the rear seats have been in use, it makes an audible sound when the vehicle is turned off and quickly projects the camera view onto the infotainment screen, Honda said.
