French automotive data company to close hub in Michigan, cutting 70 jobs

A2Mac1, a data software company headquartered in France, is closing its only U.S. location in Belleville, Mich., and dismissing 70 of its employees.

The Belleville hub will close June 3, according to a WARN Act notice filed through the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.

A2Mac1 also has locations in China, India, South Korea, Thailand and France. The Belleville hub is the only U.S. location.

The French database company provides engineering and technical benchmarking services to automakers and Tier 1 and 2 suppliers. A2Mac1's clientele ranges from Stellantis to Tesla, according to Car and Driver.

A2Mac1 disassembles rival carmakers’ vehicles and weighs parts, measures dimensions and more. Of the 90 vehicles the company analyzes a year, about 25 percent of the work takes place at the Belleville location, according to Car and Driver.

A2Mac1 did not respond to requests for comment.

“All affected employees have been notified of their separation dates and the expected permanent nature,” the notice states. “Employee separation dates are expected to occur generally between June 3, 2024, and June 17, 2024, with a small number of affected employees remaining employed for slightly longer periods to assist with wind-down operations. The company anticipates that all separations will be final by July 31, 2024.”
