Bosch's estimate of the value of semiconductors installed in an average new vehicle once electrification and autonomous driving technologies are embraced by the general market. That compares with an average of $370 per vehicle today. Rising chip demand has prompted Bosch to spend $1.1 billion to construct a plant in Dresden, Germany, that will begin doubling its chip production in 2021. Last month, Bosch launched output of silicon carbide chips for vehicle use in Reutlingen, Germany. According to Bosch, the silicon carbide composition will yield enhanced conductivity, leading to greater battery range on electric vehicles.
