Japanese electronics supplier Denso Corp. is starting 2019 with a corporate makeover designed to help the company boost its competitiveness in electrification and automated driving technology.
Denso said Thursday that it is establishing a r&d division focusing solely on the technology of mobility systems. Automated driving and connected driving will be its main areas of focus.
The company is also reorganizing several other business units:
- Denso’s thermal systems business group and will establish a product planning division that focuses on improving the thermal efficiency of vehicles and automotive parts. Such items could include waste heat recovery systems and different metals.
- With sales of diesel engines declining and electrified vehicle production increasing, Denso is changing its powertrain systems business group structure to ensure that it meets customer demands faster. Few details of the changes were provided.
- The company’s commercial vehicle business, which also handles agricultural and construction equipment, will be consolidated in one division.
Denso says the changes will take affect Jan 1.
