WASHINGTON — An advocacy group led by Ford Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp., Google-affiliate Waymo and other stakeholders on Thursday released a policy agenda to prepare U.S. workers for autonomous vehicles and career opportunities in the nascent industry.
The Partnership for Transportation Innovation and Opportunity — formed in 2018 to advance AV technology while supporting U.S. workers — said the proposals in its agenda are a "needed first step" in preparing the work force for AVs.
"New, AV-driven career opportunities are emerging today, and policymakers and other stakeholders must collaborate with existing workforce programs, industry experts and educators to develop best practices in building the AV workforce pipeline," Kathryn Branson, the group's executive director, said in a statement.
