Mercedes-Benz S class
NEXT STAGE: Redesign in 2021
A redesign of the sedan is expected in the U.S. early next year. The redesigned S-Class will feature mild-hybrid inline-six and V-8 engines.
The exterior is an evolution of Mercedes' current design, with a wider grille upfront and rear lights that now extend into the trunk lid. Interior changes are more revolutionary. The dashboard emphasizes digital interaction with a plethora of displays.
The S-Class will feature rear-axle steering and E-Active Body Control.
The next-generation S-Class might be a sedan-only model. The S-Class cabriolet and coupe models are expected to be dropped as Mercedes looks to reduce cost and complexity in the product lineup.
The redesigned 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is powered by a 4.0-liter V-8 biturbo that generates 496 hp. The opulent sedan features a Maybach-exclusive front bumper, grille and two-tone paint scheme. The wheelbase is 7 inches longer than that of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, with the additional space put to use in the rear cabin.
