Tesla made an April Fool's joke from CEO Elon Musk into a real product that sold out in hours. The electric vehicle maker debuted $250 bottles of Tesla Tequila on its website last week.
Tesla's latest introduction is already sold out
The drink is produced by Nosotros Tequila and aged for 15 months in French oak barrels before being distributed in lightning-shaped, hand-blown glass bottles. Tesla's website describes it as having "a dry fruit and light vanilla nose with a balanced cinnamon pepper finish."
Musk broached the idea of "Teslaquila" on April 1, 2018, and Tesla tried to trademark the name later that year but was turned down by Mexico's tequila producers, which said the name violated protections on the word "tequila."
The price is more than double the cost to reserve one of Tesla's upcoming Cybertrucks, but it's only half as much as Tesla charged for the flamethrowers it sold to raise $10 million for Boring Co., Musk's high-speed tunnel business.
