Scenes from Friday's UAW walkouts

Workers at 38 parts distribution centers walked off the job at noon on Friday, sending the Detroit 3 strike into a second phase.

UAW President Shawn Fain met with striking workers and the media on Friday in Center Line, Mich., after the noon strike deadline passed on Friday. 

UAW President Shawn Fain on Friday expanded the strike against U.S. automakers, focusing this phase on General Motors and Stellantis by shutting down 38 GM and Stellantis parts distribution centers in 20 states. In all, 5,600 UAW workers walked off the job as the clock struck noon. Ford earned a reprieve in this round of strikes after it increased its offers for profit-sharing payouts and job security.

Automotive News reporters fanned out across Michigan to follow the workers as they walked out of their plants and took their place among picketers.
