General Motors has closed its Chevrolet Bolt plant after a possible homicide took place on site Thursday morning, Automotive News has learned.
Production at Orion Assembly in Lake Orion, Mich., has been canceled for the day while the Oakland County Sheriff's Department investigates an incident, GM said in a statement. GM did not confirm the homicide. The plant builds Chevy's electric vehicles—the Bolt EV and the larger Bolt EUV. More than 1,200 GM employees work at the plant.
Police are investigating an altercation between two co-workers, according to Detroit area television station WDIV.
The sheriff's department is expected to release more details Thursday.
"General Motors is working with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department to investigate an altercation between two employees from a third-party service provider at Orion Assembly early Thursday morning," GM said in a statement. "The incident resulted in the death of one of the individuals. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family. In the meantime, GM has canceled Aug. 11 production at Orion Assembly. Additional details on the incident will be released by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department."
