To the Editor:
I read "Volvo seeks new suppliers, fresh ideas to make greener cars" (Douglas A. Bolduc, autonews.com, May 2) with interest and applaud Volvo for its goal and approach to increase the recycled plastic content in every newly launched vehicle. Over the last 25 years as the owner of a manufacturing company that specializes in making automotive parts from recycled plastic, I know firsthand that nothing happens without a customer.
By creating demand at the automaker level, encouraging its Tier 1 suppliers and looking for new partners to increase recycled plastic content, Volvo is not only creating a market but establishing its credentials as a sustainable carmaker.
We all know Volvo cemented its brand by focusing on safety when it wasn't fashionable.
With similar efforts to reduce its global footprint, I suspect it will be adding sustainability to its public image trophy case by 2025 if not sooner.
