Push for EVs comes from the government

Regarding “Elon Musk embraces Trump and scorns subsidies. But Tesla still lobbies for U.S. benefits,” autonews.com, Aug. 12: Operating an electric vehicle may have some carbon footprint advantages, but those are quickly negated by the process of making the batteries. Most of the materials are mined from developing nations where environmental laws are “flexible.” Add the fact that the U.S. grid does not have the capacity to supply the number of EVs the government is pushing.

The push for EVs comes solely from the U.S. government, not market demand. Consumers are not buying BEVs. The automotive industry’s focus on electrification has hurt their business model and put a strain on balancing their production of internal combustion engine vehicles and EVs. BEV manufacturers have gone bankrupt because the market is not there yet. Most people in the U.S. do not have the money to purchase a BEV, especially with the economic situation today. 

The main issue is that the Democratic Party has gone so far left that they have left former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk closer to the Republicans.
