TO THE EDITOR:
As Jason Stein says, maybe Tesla needs a partner, or maybe another auto company needs to partner with Tesla ("VW doesn't need partnership with Tesla," Automotive Views with Jason Stein, autonews.com, Aug. 23).
The suggestion that Volkswagen might form some sort of alliance with Tesla makes no sense because VW has the financial and engineering resources to make electric vehicles that are equal to or better than what Tesla is making. Perhaps one of the Chinese EV makers hoping to enter the North American market could work with Elon Musk to sell a lower-priced EV via the Tesla online buying process and also have the financial strength to improve the service and repair system for Tesla and the Chinese vehicles.
People obviously like the Tesla buying process, but Tesla definitely needs to expand their service structure. It is one thing to purchase a vehicle online, but service and repair requires a physical presence.
