TO THE EDITOR:
As a 32-year veteran of the construction industry and owner of a construction management firm, I have been waiting for an executive-level replacement for the Toyota FJ Cruiser ("Don't kill the Land Cruiser, just return it to its roots," Richard Truett, Sept. 2). Something that is rugged and construction-site capable, but customizable to add the features that I enjoy in luxury sedans: surround-view monitor, massage heated and cooled seats, head-up display and a 400-hp engine.
Pickups, Chevrolet Suburbans and other ostentatiously large vehicles are not the message I want to send to clients when marketing my services. I would like to see the Land Cruiser come out as a construction-ready, executive-level FJ. Think of it as a BMW X5 with leather seats and no carpet. That vehicle is not made now — and the Toyota badge would tell clients that I am dollar- and quality-conscious.
