TO THE EDITOR:
Regarding "Tesla's futuristic door handles blamed for death in fiery wreck," autonews.com, Oct. 22: This incident arises from our first responders not being properly trained in emergency rescue. The fast way to get that door open in a rescue situation would be to break the window and reach the inside door release. This release is mechanical and separate from the electronics and will work without power from the battery.
I give our local fire departments a brief orientation that is Tesla-specific; however, I encourage first responders to visit ALL electric vehicle websites as they all have a section dedicated to their specific EV rescue procedures.
