Feds not the one paying for EV projects

TO THE EDITOR:

Regarding “Feds give $1 billion to GM, Stellantis for EV projects,” autonews.com, July 11: The second paragraph begins with, “Overall, the federal government is contributing $1.7 billion to projects at 11 plants in eight states.” The federal government does not contribute anything. They use my (and your) money to give away to any cause they want — just like student loans are not forgiven, just paid for by someone else that did not sign up for the obligation.

I did not vote for this. I do not condone my money being given to commercial entities that cannot stand on their own two feet or to retail customers to subsidize a product that the majority of the populace does not want.

More power to you if you want an EV. Just don’t take my money and apply it toward your purchase. The government should use our money for national security, benefits to U.S. citizens, etc. — not to buy votes from those with aligning beliefs as they have.

As a retired Subaru dealer, I have seen numerous instances of poorly executed products that required the manufacturer and us as a dealer to lose money to get them off the lot.

The government did not care to bail me out of those situations, nor would I have expected them to. To do it now for EVs is patently wrong.

Stop spending my money unwisely and inappropriately. No wonder the national debt is out of sight.
