TO THE EDITOR:
The editorial "EV tax credits sound simple, but they're not" (autonews.com, Jan. 1) was absolutely 110 percent correct. This shows why Congress shouldn't get involved in technical matters they know nothing about.
The CO2 emissions/climate change problem is a gasoline problem. The best answer is to do away with all tax credits for all types of vehicles, ban the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles and let people decide what they want to buy — electric, hydrogen, bio-ethanol vehicles or any type of power, as long as it is not fossil gasoline or fossil diesel.
This is how we got rid of lead in gasoline. We didn't ban the sale of leaded gasoline. We banned the sale of new vehicles that burned it and let industry and consumers decide what to use as an octane enhancer, without any tax credits.
It took 20 years as the leaded gasoline vehicles wore out, but finally the lead was gone. The same will happen with fossil gasoline and diesel.
