TO THE EDITOR:
I read Monica Baumann's op-ed, "Dealerships must safeguard customer data" (Nov. 18), about the California Consumer Privacy Act, which requires all California dealers to protect consumers' data and info. This law, which goes into effect Jan. 1, will come as a shock to dealers as to what all they have to do to become compliant. My company works to alleviate those dealership worries, and we welcome any questions a dealer may have.
I applaud Automotive News for giving coverage to the issue. We know other states will follow suit of this law. It is time to take a stand to fraud and hackers, and it is time to start protecting consumers' information just like we would want our information protected whenever we buy something and hand out our info.
