TO THE EDITOR:
I grew up as the son of a dealer and worked many years in the industry, mainly in the leasing/sales departments of high-end franchised dealerships. Ray Shefska is 100 percent correct in his letter ("It's time to listen to FTC and clean up," Aug. 1).
The dealers need to clean up their acts and be transparent about financing and fees. A recent example is a captive finance office stating the need to go through the dealer to purchase a lease car, with the dealer adding a "fee" in excess of payoff of over $1,000 in addition to all other charges and any finance rate bump for a half-hour's work.
