TO THE EDITOR:
I enjoyed Richard Truett’s “Don’t kill the Land Cruiser, just return it to its roots” (Sept. 2). I agree with everything he said, but there is one thing Toyota is missing, and I’m surprised it didn’t make it into the piece.
To the few Toyota executives I’ve spoken with, the FJ79 in Australia is the solution for competing with Land Rover. I’m shocked that Toyota does not import this incredibly stylish creature, as I know it would be an instant hit among fans and buyers. I understand Toyota may not want to update the safety features, but it’s like turning a Hummer H1 into a roadworthy goliath — it can happen!
