TO THE EDITOR:
I've been an enthusiast since I was 12. I remember when the 1984 Chevrolet Corvette came out — I was blown away with its 0-to-60 in seven seconds! I've seen 200 hp seem like a lot. So as cars got faster and faster, it seemed like a beautiful thing. But am I the only one who thinks we are getting out of control? We are turning 760-hp Mustangs, 840-hp Dodges and, now, 1,000-hp GMC SUVs over to novice drivers. I'm all for performance, but should these buyers be forced to school before the keys are turned over?
