Editor's note: An earlier version of this story mischaracterized Volkswagen Credit's ranking in J.D. Power's 2019 U.S. Dealer Financing Satisfaction Study. J.D. Power surveys and ranks captive mass market lenders and captive luxury lenders separately, so there is no overall winner among all captive lenders. Mercedes, along with other luxury captives, was also included in the 2019 study but J.D. Power did not publish the results or rank luxury captive lenders due to a small sample size. And an earlier chart, on noncaptive lenders, published alongside this article misidentified TD Auto Finance.
Volkswagen Credit and Citizens One Auto Finance ranked highest in retailer satisfaction among mass-market captive and noncaptive auto lenders in J.D. Power's 2019 U.S. Dealer Financing Satisfaction Study, the company said Wednesday..
Volkswagen Credit also placed first among mass-market brands last year.
J.D. Power said it did not publish a separate study or ranking of luxury captive lenders due to a small sample size this year. Mercedes-Benz Financial Services placed first among luxury captive lenders the previous four years.
The survey is based on responses from 16,870 retail credit and 2,117 floorplan provider evaluations from dealers in April and May. It measures dealer satisfaction with captive mass-market, noncaptive and floorplan lenders.
