Consumers might have researched a vehicle and secured preapproval for an auto loan before entering a car dealership, Cox Automotive lender solutions strategist Andy Mayers reminds retailers.
"Don't start over," Mayers said.
If a consumer has already been approved for a loan, "that's a good thing," he said.
Respect customers' online efforts and leverage that groundwork to speed the car-buying process rather than have consumers repeat the work in person, he said.
