With his time as head of Chrysler running out in 1992, Lee Iacocca did not dial back his outspoken criticism of Japanese trade practices.
Instead, he turned up the volume.
In a Jan. 10 speech to the Detroit Economic Club, Iacocca railed against what he saw as collusion between the Japanese government and its auto industry that effectively made American-made vehicles almost unsalable in Japan. Iacocca believed that American-made vehicles were as reliable as those of Toyota, Honda, Nissan and others.
