Scott Keogh is doing his homework.
Keogh, who starts his job as CEO of Volkswagen's new Scout brand Sept. 1, immersed himself in the heritage of the name with a trip to Harvester Homecoming in Indiana this month. The event, held at a former International Harvester engineering facility in Fort Wayne, brought together 17,000 devotees of the Scout off-roader last sold more than 40 years ago.
"We were honored and tickled to death that Mr. Keogh would come here and be a part of what we're doing," Ryan DuVall, director of the event, told The Drive. "After the day was over, we were even more excited, impressed and honored to see how much he cares about what that brand means to people and what the venture he's taking is going to mean historically for the people that love the brand from the old days. It was a wonderful, wonderful addition to our show, and I'd love to have him back anytime he wants."
Keogh has been CEO of Volkswagen of North America since 2018. In July, Volkswagen appointed him to lead the revival of Scout, which plans to introduce rugged electric pickups and SUVs starting in 2026.
