GRAFTON, Vt. — William Walters, an automotive executive and enthusiast, died here March 2 at age 79. Walters, a mechanical engineer, joined Saab in 1967 at its New Haven, Conn., headquarters and went on to lead the Swedish automaker's market and product planning departments. He helped adapt Saab products — including the 96, Sonett, 99 and 9000 — to suit American tastes. He retired in 1992.
