In one, he said he supports listening to music while on the job "as well as any little touches that make work more enjoyable." Employees can either listen to their own music with one earbud, he said, or on a speaker "so long as there is reasonable agreement among your colleagues as to the music choices."
He invited employees to suggest other ideas, too, adding: "I care very much that you look forward to coming to work every day!"
But the next day, Musk's mood seems to have soured. He said managers have only three options when he gives them "explicit directions" in an email. Any other response is cause for termination, he warned.
The choices: Do what he says, ask for clarification or, if there's a problem with the directive, tell him that.
"Sometimes," Musk wrote, "I'm just plain wrong!"
