The Environmental Defense Fund took issue with two elements of our recent editorial about its joint statement with General Motors encouraging electric vehicle adoption.
The Environmental Defense Fund rightly points out that its call for the EPA to coordinate with the Transportation Department so emissions and fuel economy rules are aligned does not preclude states setting stricter standards.
The Environmental Defense Fund also said that if the EPA follows its proposal it wouldn't allow automakers to use EV incentives to boost sales of the least-efficient gasoline-burning vehicles. We aren't convinced that the language is clear, but if that's what it means, we're for it.
