Using the data collected for the top 150 groups, Automotive News has the latest trends and insights on dealership consolidation in the industry. The top groups now own more of the industry's dealerships and are responsible for a larger share of the industry's new-vehicle sales.
2021 highlights included the acquisitions of last year's No. 8 Larry H. Miller Dealerships, No. 18 Prime Automotive Group, No. 21 Suburban Collection and No. 42 RFJ Auto Partners Holdings Inc. In addition to such megadeals, many groups on last year's list also bought a significant number of stores in smaller transactions.
