Volvo Cars is on the fast track to a zero-emission future. The Swedish automaker will launch a new battery-powered model each year as it drives toward becoming an electric-only brand by 2030.
The ambitious pivot means a transformation for Volvo's U.S. dealers as the company leans into a digital-first retail model for its fleet of EVs. It is also experimenting on the distribution side with a "central stock" model, where the automaker carries inventory on its balance sheet and delivers customer-ordered cars to dealerships.
Central stock addresses two dealer pain points — the heavy cost of floor planning hundreds of vehicles, and the complexity of predicting the right combination of options that will sell.
