A Lincoln dealership in Beaver Dam, Wis., says a customer took a used MKC on a five-day, 3,000-mile test drive that ended when police arrested him.
Gregg Mitchell, 48, faces up to 16 years in prison, according to a report from Capital Newspapers in Madison.
Lidtke Motors called police three days after Mitchell allegedly left the store with a gold 2017 MKC that he asked to keep overnight to show his wife. The dealership said Mitchell, whom it knew as a previous customer, signed a purchase contract but never made a down payment and hadn't transferred his title or registration.
When he didn't return the next day, the store discovered that he had given a fake address. Police also learned he was on probation for felony theft and burglary. They tracked down Mitchell and the vehicle, with more than 3,000 additional miles on the odometer, two days after it was reported stolen.
