For the second consecutive year, the Automotive News Best Dealership To Work For in the U.S. is part of a huge Penske Automotive Group auto mall in Turnersville, N.J., about 20 miles southeast of Philadelphia.
But instead of a premium Japanese brand grabbing the gold, as Acura Turnersville did in 2018, this year's winner is about 2,000 feet to the northwest, and German.
And that's not an accident.
Neighboring Audi Turnersville ascended to the top of the 2019 Best Dealerships To Work For list by being able to maintain a familial, small-store feel while still offering all the benefits that come along with being part of a very large, very vibrant, very profitable dealership group. That mixing of what usually are two distinct retailing worlds creates an atmosphere that benefits Audi Turnersville's 42 employees and enabled the store to climb from No. 10 on the 2018 list to No. 1 overall.
"The way we work together here, I'd guarantee there aren't many dealerships like it," said Jimmy Magee, 42, who has been the store's general manager for the last year. "We're part of a big corporate company, but our dealership is more of a family atmosphere."
