Audi Turnersville in New Jersey was named the No. 1 dealership on the eighth annual Automotive News list of the 100 Best Dealerships To Work For.
The honor was announced Thursday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago.
The top 100 dealerships were selected by Best Companies Group, which evaluated the retailers based on surveys submitted by about 53,000 employees of U.S. stores.
Audi Turnersville had a 17 percent turnover rate for 2018, according to its Best Dealerships To Work For survey. The average turnover rate for dealerships in 2017, the most recent year available, was 46 percent, according to the National Automobile Dealers Association’s 2018 Dealership Workforce Study.
Part of Audi Turnersville’s relatively high retention rate could come from its mix of traditional and unique employee benefits, as well as a more flexible schedule for sales personnel to ensure a healthy work-life balance.
But Jimmy Magee, 42, the store’s general manager for the past year, said the team at the 42-employee dealership is also simply clicking.
“The way we work together here, I’d guarantee there aren’t many dealerships like it,” he said. “We’re part of a big corporate company, but our dealership is more of a family atmosphere.”
Audi Turnersville is part of a group of stores owned by Penske Automotive Group on the outskirts of Philadelphia featuring 10 brands, including BMW, Chevrolet, Honda, Nissan and Toyota. This is the second consecutive year a Penske dealership from Turnersville topped the list, after Acura Turnersville was named No. 1 in 2018. This year, Turnersville stores are in the top three spots — Audi Turnersville, Nissan of Turnersville and Acura Turnersville.
Penske Automotive Group, the nation’s second-largest new-vehicle dealership group, landed 33 stores on this year’s list, up from 24 in 2018. A profile of Audi Turnersville and the 99 other honored dealerships — as well as rankings, videos and feature stories — can be found here.
