VW’s Cariad unit taps Changan’s chief software architect as new China head

Cariad, the software unit of Volkswagen Group, appointed Frank Han, previously chief software architect at Chinese automaker Changan Automobile Co., CEO of its Cariad China subsidiary, effective March 1. 

Han will also join the management board of VW Group’s China unit as executive vice president, Cariad said Wednesday. 

Han is expected to strengthen Cariad China's expertise and integration of its latest technologies in VW Group vehicles in China, VW Group China said. 

Chang Qing, Cariad's current CEO, will return to VW Group’s headquarters in Germany, according to VW Group China. 

Cariad established a China subsidiary in Beijing in April 2022 with the goal to develop and accelerate the rollout of localized and innovative software products and digital services for VW Group’s vehicles marketed in the Chinese market.
