The market for new cars and light trucks may be slipping, but used-vehicle sales are gaining momentum in China, rising 6.7 percent to top 1.2 million in July on demand for secondhand crossovers, SUVs and multipurpose vehicles.
Deliveries of used crossovers and SUVs surged 45 percent to some 127,800 last month while used MPV volume jumped 30 percent to around 83,200, the China Automobile Dealers Association said.
Used-truck sales rose 8.7 percent to some 112,200 while used-minibus deliveries gained 8.3 percent to about 29,700.
By contrast, used-sedan deliveries only edged up 0.2 percent to roughly 675,400 while used-bus sales dipped 4.2 percent to approximately 119,300.
The rest of the used vehicles sold in July were low-speed small trucks.
In the first seven months, used-vehicle sales across China approached 8.1 million, an increase of 4.3 percent from a year earlier, according to the trade group.
