SAIC-GM to recall over 1.1 million vehicles for defective fuel pump control modules

SAIC-GM, General Motors’ joint venture with SAIC Motor Corp., plans to recall 1,134,085 Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicles for safety hazards posed by problematic fuel pump control modules. 

The recall, to begin on May 31, 2024, covers 611,260 Buick models, 195,819 Chevrolet vehicles and 327,006 Cadillac models, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation said on its website on November 10.

Because of poor moisture-proof controls and performance with fuel pump control modules, the vehicles, produced from September 2019 to July 2023, mgiht experience water vapor intrusion into control modules after being exposed to water and moisture, resulting in abnormal operation. 

In extreme cases, it could cause the vehicles to lose power while driving, the market watchdog said. 

It is SAIC-GM's second product recall this year due to defective fuel pump control modules in vehicles. 

In June, SAIC-GM said it would recall 74,295 Chevrolet Equinox crossovers assembled from August 2020 to December 2022 because of the problem, according to the market watchdog.
