Nexteer Automotive, a Chinese-owned maker of steering systems, is establishing a joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Co. to supply electric power steering systems to the state-owned automaker and its affiliates.
The venture will be equally owned by Nexteer and Dongfeng Motor Parts and Components Group Co., a subsidiary of Dongfeng. Nexteer said it will be located near the central China city of Wuhan where Dongfeng is headquartered.
Nexteer, which is headquartered in suburban Detroit, was acquired in 2010 by China's Pacific Century Motors, which is partly owned by Beijing's municipal government.
The company operates factories in Beijing, Wuhu, Chongqing and Liuzhou, and also an engineering center in Beijing. Its Asian headquarters is in Shanghai.
Dongfeng, a major Chinese truck maker, also produces passenger vehicles under its own brands. It maintains joint ventures with Nissan Motor Co., Honda Motor Co., PSA Peugeot Citroen and KIA Motor Corp.
