New-car market rebounds 25% in Nov.

Retail sales of new sedans, crossovers, SUVs and multi-purpose vehicles industrywide jumped 25 percent year on year to 2.06 million in November, the China Automobile Dealers Car Association said Thursday, drawing on its preliminary tally.

The sales surge came mainly as a result of favorable comparison to the same month last year when a resurging coronavirus outbreak severely curbed vehicle production and sales across China.

On a month-on-month basis, the new-market only expanded 1 percent from October, the trade group noted.  

In November, electrified vehicles continued to penetrate the market at a fast pace: sales of full electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids advanced 30 percent year on year to some 783,000.

For the first 11 months, new-car sales industrywide rose 5 percent from a year earlier to 19.3 million, according to the CADA’s tally.

In the same period, deliveries of EVs and plug-in hybrids surged 34 percent to 6.7 million.
