CATL, China’s largest battery supplier for electric vehicles, has started producing lithium ion battery cells on a production line at its plant in the German state of Thuringia.
The factory, the first it has commissioned outside China, will supply cells to European automakers, the Chinese company said on Wednesday.
The plant is now installing more production lines to expand output, it added.
In April, the factory received permission by the state of Thuringia to initially produce eight gigawatt-hours of battery cells per year.
It plans to boost the Thuringia plant’s annual capacity to 14GWh, CATL said.
