OJAI, Calif. — Customers looking for a more spruced-up Subaru Legacy are in luck.
That's because with the 2020 model year redesign, Subaru of America added a Touring trim to the midsize sedan, an offering that was previously unavailable on the nameplate.
Sitting atop the Legacy trim range is now the Touring XT, which comes standard with a host of upgrades including a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine, tan nappa leather seats, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, a front-view camera and DriverFocus, a driver-distraction monitoring system.
The Touring XT starts at $36,795, including shipping.
"We make one midsize sedan," Peter Tenn, car line manager, told Automotive News at the vehicle's media launch here last week. "It's not like we can make a Camry and then we step [customers] up to a Lexus. We have to do everything in one model line. That's why we created the Touring, which is going to attract more of the near-luxury buyers. We do everything in one model line, as opposed to other brands that have a different brand they can ... move people into. For Legacy, it has to capture a wide range of customers."
