Ram ProMaster EV targets 162 miles of city driving range

The Ram ProMaster EV van, the brand's first electric entry in the U.S., has a targeted range of 162 miles in city driving.

The van will have two variants, with one considered a "delivery" model and the other called the "non-delivery/cargo" version. The cargo version will be available in two configurations, the automaker said Tuesday, including a 12-foot cargo length and an extended 13-foot length.

The electric van is just one of a host of EVs coming to the U.S. in 2024, including several from Ram such as the 1500 REV pickup.

Amazon will be the first commercial customer for the ProMaster EV. Stellantis said the EV is built on the ProMaster architecture but is "designed specifically for electrification, featuring a unibody design that incorporates the battery pack efficiently."

The ProMaster EV has a standard 110-kilowatt-hour battery pack. The cargo configuration features up to 3,020 pounds of payload, while the delivery model offers 2,030 pounds.

Stellantis said a 200-kilowatt electric drive module will deliver 268 hp, 302 pound-feet of torque and standard front-wheel-drive capability.

The battery is located under the floor in the center of the vehicle, the company said, which "maintains a flat floor while cargo volume is unchanged from ICE vehicles."

The ProMaster EV has Level 3 DC fast charging options of 50 kW, 85 kW, 125 kW and 150 kW. A Level 2 wall box charger with up to 11 kW is available. The vehicle's charge port, according to Stellantis, illuminates while the vehicle is charging with an audible sound alert to confirm the connection.

The van is equipped with Ram Telematics, which Stellantis says "enables vehicle location and driving insights to help reduce fuel costs, improves route efficiency and promotes safer driving behaviors." Ram Telematics offers real-time vehicle diagnostics and performance data as well. The standard telematics module enables nearly 50 functions on the ProMaster, including over-the-air updates, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot, and Apps Over the Air.

The technology has last-mile navigation that provides walking directions from the vehicle to the final destination via the Uconnect companion smartphone app. It also features Alexa home-to-truck and truck-to-home functionality that includes an in-vehicle virtual assistant.

Stellantis said the optional safety and security features include Intelligent Speed Assist, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, Level 2 active drive-assist, front parking sensors and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

The van uses the Uconnect 5 infotainment system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen.

Other features include a charging station locator that allows drivers to locate an EV charge site when energy levels are low.

"The introduction of the Ram ProMaster EV represents another major milestone on our electrification journey as we continue to evolve without sacrificing capability," Ram brand CEO Tim Kuniskis said in a statement. "Ram's first available electric vehicle is a game-changer, offering commercial customers, large and small, the ultimate van in zero-emissions performance, commercial capability and advanced technology."

The ProMaster EV delivery variant can be ordered now and starts at $79,990, including shipping, with standard pocket door, rear rollup door and 524 cubic feet of cargo space. Deliveries begin in the first half of 2024.  

It also qualifies for the 45W commercial clean vehicle credit up to $7,500.

Orders for the cargo version will begin at a later date.
