Lamborghini to send Aventador off with Ultimae special editions

Lamborghini is giving the V-12-powered, naturally aspirated Aventador supercar a robust send-off with a final limited run of 600 Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae editions, which the brand says concentrates "the purest features of all Aventador editions into a perfect finale."

The Italian brand says it will build 350 coupes and 250 roadster versions of the 2022 Aventador Ultimae edition, each individually numbered and equipped with a 769-hp, V-12 engine able to produce 531 pound-feet of torque and capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 2.8 seconds. The special editions, which are all-wheel drive and feature four-wheel steering, will debut at this week's Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K.

The Aventador LP 780-4 "delivers the essential 12-cylinder experience in terms of inimitable design, engineering solutions and the most emotive driving experience, and is the definitive Aventador concluding an extraordinary era," Stephan Winkelmann, president and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, said in a statement.

"It is the last of its kind: It delivers the maximum power and conclusive performance expected from Lamborghini's current V12 engine, combined with our inimitable flagship's design DNA."

Among the changes with the Ultimae edition is a specially designed front bumper that increases the aerodynamic load on the front of the vehicle. Lamborghini also says the all-wheel drive is calibrated "to allow more torque to the rear axle so that when powering off, less torque is shifted to the front axle to allow sporty but safe oversteer behavior."

The Ultimae edition also features a rear wing that moves into three different positions to help the supercar's performance and handling, depending on speed and the drive mode selected. The seven-speed transmission is capable of providing robotized gear shifts in up to 50 milliseconds, Lamborghini says.

Pricing information was not announced, nor were details on availability in the U.S., a spokesman for the brand said.
