Aston Martin hatches Valiant bespoke model with Fernando Alonso assist

Aston Martin's latest bespoke model takes inspiration from the automaker's racing heritage past and present, with an assist from its star Formula One driver, Fernando Alonso.

The Valiant coupe features a behemoth 5.2-liter V-12 engine with around 735 hp and 555 pound-feet of torque, and a six-speed manual transmission.

The British ultraluxury brand said the Valiant was created by its bespoke division, Q by Aston Martin. The Valiant was originally a commission from Alonso of Aston Martin's Formula One team. Alonso desired a lighter and more extreme version of the Valour coupe, which debuted last year as part of Aston Martin's 110th anniversary, the automaker said.

Aston Martin focused on reducing weight in the Valiant. To do so, there is a 3D-printed subframe, magnesium wheels and carbon-fiber bodywork.

The wheel design is inspired by an Aston Martin endurance race car from the late 1970s nicknamed The Muncher.

While the Valiant is engineered to perform best on track, it is homologated for road use.

Aston Martin says the Valiant has a sold-out production run of 38. Deliveries will begin in the fourth quarter. Pricing was not disclosed.

The Valiant will make its public debut during July's Goodwood Festival of Speed in England, where Alonso will complete a demonstration run.
