Fisker preps pickup, grand tourer

With Fisker's U.S. deliveries of the Ocean electric crossover underway, the company is providing more details about additional products in development.

CEO Henrik Fisker, last week in Huntington Beach, Calif., showed an off-road package for the Ocean called Force E that can be optioned on the top Extreme trim level and mid-level Ultra, with 33-inch tires on 20-inch wheels. The package is scheduled to be available in the first quarter of 2024, the automaker said, with pricing to be announced later.

The EV startup also previewed a pickup based on the Ocean's architecture that could launch as early as 2025. The Alaska pickup, with a 4.5-foot bed that can be extended to 7.5 feet through access to the cabin, will start at $45,400, excluding shipping, the company said. Fisker is billing it as the lightest electric pickup truck ever engineered and assembled, with a range estimated at 230 to 340 miles.

The pickup will be made in the U.S., CEO Fisker said. The automaker is negotiating a contract manufacturing deal in the U.S. with Taiwan’s Foxconn, formally known as Hon Hai Technology Group.

The EV maker also presented an updated version of the Pear compact vehicle, which is designed for global markets with a starting price just under $30,000. The Pear, billed as a sustainable city car, is slated for U.S. production in mid-2025, Fisker said.

A low-volume, carbon fiber sports car, the Ronin, will top the lineup. It will feature four butterfly doors and a range of more than 600 miles.

The Ronin GT's triple motor all-wheel drive powertrain is projected to deliver more than 1,000 horsepower and a 0-60 mph in approximately 2.0 seconds, Fisker said. “A showcase for Fisker engineering, powertrain and software capabilities, Ronin will be ultraluxury priced and built in limited quantities,” the automaker said.

“I want to emphasize that these are all vehicles that have been in development for quite a long time,” Fisker said on an earnings call last week. “We’re going to be able to put all of these vehicles into production within two years. We don’t see a lot of competitors.”
