Mini Cooper hardtop redesign delivers more power, new tech

The fifth-generation Mini Cooper 2-door hardtop gets more power under the hood and technology in the cockpit.

The redesign of Mini's second-highest volume nameplate is part of a product portfolio overhaul.

The 2025 Mini Cooper hardtop rides on a modified version of the car's existing platform and sports a more powerful engine. The model gets a redesigned exterior, a digital-focused interior and the brand's latest infotainment system.

The base Cooper C starts at $29,945 and arrives in September, while the higher-powered S variant begins at $33,195, with deliveries kicking off in May. Prices include shipping.

Redesigned convertible and four-door versions of the hatchback will follow — the final fleet of combustion engine models before Mini ditches hydrocarbons early next decade.

The Cooper C gets an updated 2-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine, an upgrade from the 1.5-liter, 134-hp 3-cylinder power unit in the 2023 model. U.S. performance specs of the Cooper model were not disclosed.

The peppier S variant sports a 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that generates 201 hp — a 12-hp boost over the outgoing generation. The hatch accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds.

A new octagonal grille is bracketed by LED headlights and horizontal daytime running lights. The redesigned rear features newly styled taillights.

A radar sensor on the horizontal strut between the air intakes is part of a suite of 12 ultrasonic sensors that power the Mini's driver assistance systems.

The redesigned Cooper will have a minimalist and digital-heavy interior.

A 9.4-inch organic LED infotainment display that debuted in the brand's electric models displays driving information, vehicle controls, navigation and media.

The interior isn't entirely devoid of knobs and buttons. A discreet panel below the infotainment display holds the vehicle start-stop button, gear shifter and parking brake.

The redesigned Cooper gets Mini's new digital personal assistant in the form of a British bulldog character called Spike and responds to commands from the driver.
