2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV gets more range, adds XRT trim, qualifies for U.S. tax credit

Hyundai's freshened 2025 Ioniq 5 will be equipped with Tesla's North American Charging Standard port and a larger battery pack yielding more range when it arrives at dealerships this fall.

All Ioniq 5s receive updates inside and out, and a more off-road-oriented XRT variant joins the lineup.

Hyundai Motor North America CEO Jose Muñoz said in a statement that the updates will "give customers more of what they want."

The freshened Ioniq 5, the first electric vehicle to come from Hyundai's Metaplant in Bryan County, Ga., will also qualify for a $3,750 federal tax credit.

It's the first EV from Hyundai Motor Group to qualify for at least part of the $7,500 federal incentive under new, stricter guidelines implemented this year. All Ioniq 5s qualify for the full $7,500 when leased.

The 2025 Ioniq 5 is also the first Hyundai model built with the updated charging standard, gaining access to more than 17,000 chargers in Tesla's Supercharger network. Hyundai said all new or freshened models will come with the port starting in the fourth quarter.

Battery capacity and range are improved across most of the lineup. The sole Standard Range model now carries a 63-kilowatt-hour battery pack compared with 58 kWh in the outgoing model. Battery capacity in Long Range models increases from 77.4 kWh to 84 kWh.

The most efficient rear-drive SE, SEL and Limited models can now travel more than 310 miles on a full charge, compared with 303 miles in the outgoing model.

All-wheel-drive SE, SEL, Limited and XRT trims will now offer 250 to 280 miles of range, depending on wheel and tire size. For some configurations, that's more than the 260-mile range previously offered.

The base rear-drive Standard Range model's range increases from 220 miles to more than 240.

On the exterior, the 2025 Ioniq 5 has restyled front and rear bumpers, a new rear spoiler and more aerodynamic wheels. Flush roof rails are available, and three new colors join the palette: Atlas White Matte, Ecotronic Gray Matte and Celadon Gray Matte.

Interior changes include redesigned heating, ventilating and air-conditioning controls and steering wheel as well as a new center console. Front seat heater controls are now physical buttons. The SEL trim and above now features heated rear seats.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard, as is a 12.3-inch screen that includes the driver information display and center infotainment touchscreen. There are five USB-C ports throughout the cabin. All models are now equipped with over-the-air update software.

A handful of safety and convenience features have been added, including a Hands-On Detection steering wheel, Lane Following Assist 2, Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 and Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist.

Hyundai said the new XRT variant is positioned just below the performance Ioniq 5 N and is designed for consumers who like to "play in the dirt."

The Ioniq 5 XRT also has a near 1-inch suspension lift and 7 inches of ground clearance.

It offers a more aggressive front and rear design with exclusive bumpers, side skirts and distinct black 18-inch wheels. Inside, it has XRT badging and a black headliner.

Hyundai did not announce pricing for the 2025 Ioniq 5. The 2024 model starts at $43,195 and tops out at $60,795. Both prices include shipping.
