Genesis Motor's GV80 Coupe is a performance-minded midsize crossover that trades fastback styling for the third row found in its GV80 counterpart.

The GV80 Coupe, on sale now, comes in two well-appointed trims. The entry 3.5T is loaded with features addressing safety, convenience and infotainment, and costs $81,300. The 3.5 e-Supercharger adds performance features and a few styling upgrades and is $87,100. Both prices include shipping.

Offering a coupe crossover, especially at such a high price point, helps push Genesis closer to German rivals and adds more design and engineering clout to the young premium brand. It also provides more choices for consumers looking for a crossover not centered around family needs.

The GV80 Coupe's performance ethos paves the way for the GV60 Magma, a variant of the electric compact crossover that will usher in a line of performance EVs under the Magma sub-brand. Genesis unveiled a lineup of Magma concepts at the 2024 New York auto show draped in the same racy orange it used on the coupe concept it showed there the previous year.

The Genesis GV80 Coupe comes in just two streamlined trims differentiated primarily by powertrain. The GV80 Coupe 3.5T has a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission that delivers 375 hp and 391 pound-feet of torque. The GV80 Coupe 3.5 e-Supercharger uses a 3.5-liter V-6 with a 48-volt electric supercharger that boosts output to 409 hp and 405 pound-feet of torque. Both are all-wheel drive only. The supercharger variant gets larger 22-inch wheels versus 20-inch wheels in the 3.5T, monobloc front brakes with black calipers, quad muffler tips, carbon fiber trim and alloy pedals. Everything else — interior finishes, safety technology, infotainment and premium audio — is the same.

The GV80 Coupe is designed with a sportier appeal meant to convey performance, unlike the more family-focused GV80, which centers on comfort and convenience. In addition to its fastback shape, visual cues that convey performance over function include its own grille design, a larger air curtain, a more aggressive front bumper and slightly larger air intakes. It also has 20- or 22-inch matte gray wheels with black brake calipers (depending on trim). The GV80 Coupe offers two exclusive colors — Bering Blue and Mauna Red.

The GV80 Coupe has a two-tone D-shaped steering wheel that Genesis says enhances its personality. Metal pedals help prevent slippage, but also are meant to elevate the performance experience for the driver. The seats are upholstered in Nappa leather, and there are carbon fiber accents throughout.

The GV80 Coupe 3.5 e-Supercharger has a Sport + drive mode that calibrates controls for more performance-oriented driving behavior. It also features Launch Control to aid fast acceleration from a standstill. The mode reduces wheel spin and manages torque, throttle and gear settings to prevent damage from track mimicking moves.

Drivers can select how they want the brake pedal to feel under their foot. Comfort mode enables smoother and more comfortable braking, and Sport mode delivers more responsive, linear braking.

The cockpit is accented with an expansive 27-inch OLED display that connects a customizable digital gauge cluster behind the steering wheel and infotainment functions at the center point of the dash. Driver information, navigation and the view from the GV80 Coupe's surround-view monitor also is displayed crisply on the massive screen. The GV80 Coupe also features cloud connected routing and a voice recognition system.
