2024 Hyundai Elantra gets major freshen

Hyundai's freshened 2024 Elantra compact sedan features a significant face-lift and an interior that bring it closer in line with the rest of the brand's lineup.

The Elantra is Hyundai's No. 2 seller behind the Tucson compact crossover and has logged U.S. sales of 97,898 through August. It also was the third top seller in its segment in the first half of the year, trailing the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.

Designers say the Elantra's interior and exterior styling changes are meant to be edgy and playful as well as purposeful and modern. From the side, it has a "shark nose character" that gives it a more aggressive appearance. Its coupe-like silhouette and sculpted parametric surfaces improve aerodynamics for fuel savings and driving dynamics.

Depending on trim, buyers can choose from 15-, 16-, 17- or 18-inch wheels.

The grille and fenders create a two-piece face with a horizontal separation giving the front a sleek, clean appearance. It also gets a more modern flat stainless steel Hyundai badge. The H design carries over on the rear with LED taillights that go across the whole body. The Elantra also adopts a sloping rear glass and wing tip.

Designers said the interior conveys the feeling of a sports car but with ample passenger space. Wi-Fi hot spot is now available, and there are two rear USB-C ports. The wireless charge pad has been redesigned with a phone guardrail and a charging indicator light. A 10.25-inch center touchscreen is available.

The Elantra N also gets some tweaks, including a revised grille with N-specific red stripes and bigger air intakes as well as black 19-inch wheels. It has the N-exclusive black Hyundai badge and blue contrast stitching on the interior.

The 2024 Elantra will offer the same four powertrains as previously: a 147-hp 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder; a 1.6-liter hybrid inline four-cylinder; a turbocharged 1.6-liter with 201 hp; and a turbocharged 276-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder designed for the N, which can be paired with a six-speed manual or dual-clutch transmission.

The 2.0-liter Elantra goes on sale in September, with the hybrid and performance trims following later in the year. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
