Jones on changes to employment practices because of recent industry disruptions like the inventory crisis: “Even though we have less inventory, we did not change our personnel levels or our compensation pay plans. Inventory levels will come back someday, and we have great employees that I do not want to lose for a temporary volume reduction.”
Jones on improving employee retention: “We have flexible scheduling for our employees as well as great recognition programs. We also have very competitive compensation programs. Ultimately, the best retention program is for our management team to treat others as they want to be treated.”
Jones on offering a long-term career path: “We have three different training/career path programs for our employees: HiPo Class, for employees aspiring to go into management; Management 101, for existing managers wanting to further their career path to higher management; and Faulkner Academy, for general sales managers who want to be general managers. All three classes are one-year training programs.”
Jones on diversity, equity and inclusion: “Every year our diversity increases. We recruit through many diverse publications in our area through print, TV and radio as well as some newsletters that target diverse areas. We also have a committee of a diverse group of employees, many who speak more than English, [who work on] ways to make sure all employees are included.”
Jones on parental leave: “Having paid parental leave gives our employees the comfort of knowing that if they need it, they can still have an income while caring for family. This definitely helps with recruiting and retention.”
