WINNER: A hybrid module doesn’t have to be too big
Schaeffler Group USA
2021 - PACE Award Winner
WHAT: P2 hybrid module for rear-wheel-drive transmissions
INNOVATION: Schaeffer’s hybrid module was an achievement in design and packaging. The module houses an electric motor and disconnect clutch that is mounted between an engine and transmission. By integrating the electric motor rotor with the torque converter, Schaeffler was able to produce the module on an existing transmission assembly line and make it compact enough to fit a variety of customer vehicles.
FIRST CUSTOMER: Ford Motor Co.

Schaeffler has designed and industrialized a hybrid module that could be mated with Ford’s 10R80 transmission to be used to propel a vehicle in full electric mode, used in conjunction with a gasoline engine to increase towing and straight-line performance, or used to generate electricity for powering homes or job sites.
