Exterior design manager for Corvette,
The midengine eighth-generation Corvette is one of the hottest cars in years from General Motors — reports say the first year’s production run is already sold out.
As leader of the exterior design team, Kirk Bennion, 58, a 35-year GM veteran, had to balance many difficult tasks as the 2020 Corvette took shape. Moving the engine from the front of the car to the middle presented many engineering challenges that affected the car’s design.
The new Corvette had to be very sleek aerodynamically, and the team had to ensure that the car’s cooling systems got the appropriate amount of air. And, of course, the Corvette had to look good.
Bennion, an amateur race car driver, has a degree in industrial design from the Cleveland Institute of Art.
